Karl Kazal operates the consulting business Australian World Trading Pty Ltd based in Sydney where he has consulted internationally for more than 25 years introducing Australia to the Middle East. He has also operated several Retail businesses in Sydney for more than 25 years.
Karl has been instrumental in bringing the Australian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Governments together for bi-lateral economic discussions over many years. As an Australian Citizen who hails originally from the Middle East, Karl readily identified the great many economic opportunities available in Australia that would be of interest to his contacts in the Middle East.
Karl identified opportunities to introduce Australia to the Middle East, focusing his initial attention on the United Arab Emirates who Karl felt had very similar philosophies and aspirations at a national level to compete on a world stage and punch above its weight as Australia has done for many years.
Of critical significance was the fact Karl felt both countries strived to be stable influencers to support a peaceful global outcome that made them strategic allies in terms of national defence and other common interests that have over the past 25-30 years become very important ties.
For his work bringing economic links from Australia to the UAE and introducing UAE government and business leaders to their Australian counterparts, Karl was recognised by the founding Sheikh of the UAE H.E. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with his brother Tony for his work helping the UAE establish strong economic links with Australia.
When they received their Award, Karl & Tony were 2 of only 3 non-political background candidates to ever be awarded the UAE’s highest honour, the Sheikh Zayed Medal for services to the UAE.
This recognition for introducing the UAE and driving economic development with countries like Australia was for work Karl undertook, often at his own expense to showcase the UAE at major event opportunities. An example of this was the Camel Races conducted at Randwick Races from 1998 – 2000 in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics.
With international focus on Australia building throughout the lead up to the Olympics, the timing of this event saw more than 30,000 guests including a great many international journalists invited to the 2000 Randwick Camel Races. Events including skydivers carrying the UAE Flag and tribute to Sheikh Zayed well and truly showcased the growing ties between the UAE and Australia where there is an ever-increasing Arabic percentage of the population that supported this event. In 2009, Karl was appointed by the NSW Government as their Honorary Sydney Trade & Investment Advisor to the Middle East, recognising his previous (and ongoing) contributions in this area.
Karl has facilitated countless introductions between the Leaders of Australia and the Gulf countries and their Senior Ministers. He has initiated introductions in Australia and the Gulf countries for Ministers and Ambassadors as an act of goodwill to bring economic stimulus for Australian businesses who desperately need the trade opportunities with the Middle East but don’t have a means of accessing key contacts in the region.
Karl maintains strong connections throughout the Middle East as a direct result of his work introducing the region to Australia and continues to advise business and government contacts to help drive economic development between these regions.
